Reducing car insurance inspection from days to minutes
About YOUSE’s Online Inspection
Inspection is a mandatory procedure for car insurance clients located in Brazil. Youse's online inspection feature makes it possible for users to conduct their own car insurance inspection within minutes, all from within the app and without having to leave their home.

Global recognition
This feature was released in February 2017 and has gone through 3 updates in recent versions of the Youse application.
There have been more than 20,000 completed surveys since the feature’s launch. This feature won awards from all over the world, and we ended up attending the 2017 Digital Insurance Agenda awards event in Amsterdam as one of the 50 best insurance solutions.
Building the experience
The idea for this feature came up in our hackathon, where all Youse employees come together to come up with innovative approaches to our service. We were able to complete the POC (Proof of Concept) of Online Inspection in just 48 hours. With proof of concept done, we joined developers, UXs, product specialists, insurance personnel, and our risk and fraud departments to determine what was needed to bring the feature to life. To reduce the risk of fraud, we used Artificial Intelligence and a series of algorithms to select clients who we would make the feature available to.
After many iterations of designing and prototyping, we defined the MVP (Minimum Viable Product), allowing access to only selected clients who would then take 6 photos of their vehicle and answer 2 followup questions. The product flow had to be easy for users to do on their own, so we build it with an emphasis on illustrated instructions at every step.
User research
From early user testing, we discovered that it was important to divide the process into many individual steps. After talking with our users, I designed and incorporated illustrated instructions for each step in the process, making it clear how clients should use their smartphones to capture the image of their car from the various angles and distances we needed for our internal systems.

The biggest surprise came when we saw the average user’s time to completion: just 5 minutes and 28 seconds from the first alert to taking the photos to answering the questions and hitting "send survey".
