The challenge

This project was about improving the experience of an existing app that already had loyal and engaged users. The first version became real through crowdfunding support, and the success of the app was so impressive that when the company decided to redesign it, the second round of crowdfunding happened quickly. The users wanted to see the platform different.

The app goal is to facilitate exchanges of clothes and accessories. If you don’t wear a piece of cloth anymore, for example, you can try to trade it in the platform for something that interest you. Once the users upload it, they can search for things they're looking for and find a match for the trade. This interaction was, since the beginning, a Tinder-like swipe interaction, and it worked fine. But the piece’s details weren’t visible, the owner’s profile either, the conversation between the parts wasn’t happening in a clear way, and frequently the users got lost in the app.

The owner collected many feedbacks from users during a year and she already had an idea it needed real improvements. Plus, she had a list of features nice-to-have in the new version of Roupa Livre App.

Building scalable look’n feel

Once we agreed in a consistent user navigation that I designed, I started making the look and feel appealing. It was time for a change of visual, detailing interactions and screens to make them look good.

I started studying the user's pain points and analyzing the problems in the main navigation. At this point, I noticed the information hierarchy needed fixing, and we should find some bright spaces for the new features.

The color scheme was created based in the material they already had online and the design system was simple, but precise.

Adding delight

I thought it would be special if we could build the main feedbacks as part of a narrative, creating seamless transitions and promoting connection with people in these specific moments. The team got really excited about adding some motion and I did different one for the onboard screens, when a user uploads a new piece in the app and, the most pleasure point in the experience, when a match happens. These are some of them:

The app is free and its new version available on Google Play and Apple Store since December of 2019.
